Program Mission

The Adopt-a-Street program mission is to clean-up city streets and road shoulders through the work of volunteer organizations. Adopt-A-Street Brochure (pdf)

Why Adopt-a-Street?

• Adopting groups take pride in their contribution to their community and be confident that their efforts are increasing public awareness about litter control.
• The Adopt-a-Street program gives adopting groups a valuable opportunity to make a difference in their community and enhance the overall appearance of the city.
• The adopting group is responsible to pick up trash and litter along both sides of the adopted street a minimum of three times a year.
• The Streets Department will provide trash bags, gloves and orange safety vests for each group. The department will also pick up the bagged litter collected by volunteers.

How does the Adoption Process Work?

1. Contact the Streets Department at (970) 221-6615 and ask to speak to the Adopt-a-Street Coordinator.

2. Request a specific street segment to adopt; if that segment is unavailable the organization will be assigned an available segment. Adopted streets cover a one-mile section.

3. Fill out the Adopt-a-Street Contract (pdf) and return to the Streets Department.

4. The adopting group is responsible to pick up trash and litter along both sides of the adopted street a minimum of three times a year.

5. The Streets Department will provide and deliver trash bags, gloves and orange safety vests to each group. The department will also pick up the bagged litter collected by volunteers.

• School Groups

Acknowledgement and Recognition

• After an organization completes three clean-ups, the Streets Department will install a sign crediting the adopting group at the beginning and end of the adopted street section. Signs will include the organization's group name and the city logo, and will remain in place as long as the adoption contract is current.
