2007 NFL/NRPA Local Agency Grant Awarded!

The City of Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Department received a $2000 grant from the 2007 National Football League (NFL) Youth Fund Local Agency Grant in partnership with the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA).The grant is to benefit the Fort Collins youth football leagues. The funding will provide additional tackle football equipment, namely helmets.

The tackle football program, which affects more than 1,800 youth every year, was awarded the grant out of more than 200 agencies from parks and recreation, schools and leagues across the country. "We are pleased to have received this money from the NFL/NRPA. The funding will greatly benefit our youth football players and we feel that it will help us accomplish our goal of making Fort Collins youth football the quintessential youth football program in the country," said Ben Stratton, Recreation Coordinator.

Each applicant was required to submit detailed information concerning the state of youth football in order to qualify for funding. Both tackle and flag programs were considered for support across the country. Over 100 agencies received funding to enhance programs and create stability for the future of youth football at the grassroots level.
