It’s North. AND it's Gold!
Northside Aztlan Community Center has achieved Gold LEED Certification from USGBC.
The Northside Aztlan Community Center, 112 E. Willow, has been recognized with a Gold Level LEED certification from USGBC (US Green Building Council) and is the first large multi-use recreation center in the country to do so.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Staff and consultants began the project by integrating LEED requirements into the design. Notable "green" strategies and features earn points in a variety of categories including sustainable site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environment and innovation.
The building was constructed on an old city dump site with brownfields designation. A few of the facility attributes are a heat-reflective roof; efficient lighting, plumbing, mechanical, and indoor air quality; drought-tolerant landscaping; and materials with recycled content.
