The History of Club Tico

In 1948 the Park Pavilion in the heart of City Park in Fort Collins, Colorado was turned over to a youth organization and became known as "ClubTico." Until 1973, the facility housed activities for the youth of Fort Collins, providing a place to meet, socialize, dance, have a snack or shoot some pool. Those day at Club Tico hold a special place in the hearts and minds of all those who attended.

In 1973 the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department became managers of the facility and named it City Park Center. In 2005, the name Club Tico name was adopted once again! This rededication is part of a movement to celebrate the past while preparing for the future. Although we cannot recreate this unique time in the history of Fort Collins, we envision a new and exciting future for the building.

Club Tico's Mission

Club Tico, in the heart of City Park, has served Fort Collins for more than 80 years as a community center where people of all ages gather, connect and participate in a variety of activities that enrich and enhance all our lives.

Our vision is to restore this irreplaceable gem to its former glory as the best ballroom in the area, to enhance its amenities and to address the needs of current and future generations of users.

We are committed to see Club Tico continue as an affordable venue for community events.

Club Tico opened in July of 1921 and has bee a major gathering point for the community since then. The park pavilion was originally designed for the private concession rights to sell refreshments and to rent bathing suits and boats for Sheldon Lake. The pavilion was also used to dance or to watch dancing. Later, in the early 1940's, the second floor dance hall became a roller rink as well as a dance facility. In 1948, the building was turned over to a youth organization and became known as "Club Tico." The rest is history!

We want to bring back that unique time in the history of Fort Collins, help us preserve the memories by contributing to the Club Tico Journal. If you would like, fill out the form below to submit your story, or send in a written account of your memories, copies of photos or other memorabilia, or copied excerpts from yearbooks or other publications. Please submit items that you do not want returned.

These submissions will be placed in journals which will be on display at Club Tico after following remodeling. The journals will be labeled by year from 1948 to 1973. We will also maintain a journal for pre-Tico days, years 1921 to 1948 and after-Tico days, years 1973 to present.
