Project Impact - Monthly Update
September 15, 1999 to October 15, 1999

  • Real Time Flood Inundation Mapping
This has been a very busy month for this project. The project team attended a demonstration on a new program that will run as companion software for out stream and precipitation gages within the RTFIM project. The program helps Emergency Managers determine actions based on the current threshold of flood inundation taking place. For example, the program can automatically page a street worker to close an intersection as soon as it becomes flooded. On the mapping part of the project, we are verifying spot elevations in the pilot area and have been very pleased with the accuracy and overall results.

  • OEM Website
We unveiled a great new look for our OEM website on September 26, which includes new graphics, updated pages, and an easier navigational system. We have been receiving a lot of nationwide interest on the Natural Disaster Information Cards, which can be downloaded from the website. We also were voted "most creative site" by community members.

  • Stream and Precipitation Gages
We submitted grant proposals this month in an effort to expand our successful stream and precipitation gage system.

  • Y2K TV Special
Glenn Levy participated in the filming of a television special on Y2K. The program was hosted by Mayor Martinez and will be shown locally on Fort Collins' local Channel 27 television station.

  • Celebration of Neighborhoods
OEM participated in the activities at the Celebration of Neighborhoods held October 8th at the Lory Student Center on the CSU campus. The event is a meeting and sharing of information between active neighborhood groups throughout the city. OEM sponsored a booth with Y2K and disaster preparedness information.

  • Emergency Auto-Dialer
OEM personnel attended a training session sponsored by Dialogic Communications in Denver on October 8th. The topic was how to maximize the benefits of the Communicator and included presentations from other agencies on how they use the system in their departments.

  • Salvation Army Mobile Disaster Response Canteen
OEM attended the unveiling ceremony of the new disaster response canteen held at Foothills Fashion Mall on September 24th. The canteen will be used to feed emergency workers, volunteers, and victims at any long term emergency event.

  • Notification Education Promotion
We have just launched a new promotion intended to inform the community about the new emergency notification methods that have recently been installed. The campaign will include videos, brochures, information packets, magnets, presentations, and more.
