Project Impact - Monthly Update
May 15, 1999 to June 15, 1999

  • Real Time Flood Inundation Mapping:
We received prints of the aerial photos of the entire flight over Fort Collins. The project team is reviewing the quality and detail and beginning the long process of aero-triangulation. Final design specifications are near completion.

  • Web Site:
More information has been added weekly, including more detail on the progress of our activities and projects.

  • Stream and Precipitation Gages:
Installation is nearly complete and the gages are now reporting live data into our StormWatch software. Emergency Management personnel received their first precipitation alarm on our pagers during a thunderstorm on June 10th, alerting us to potential problems from .12 inch of rainfall in Old Town that fell in less than 10 minutes.

  • Home Show
Stormwater Department participated in the Home Show sponsored by the Board of Realtors and the Coloradoan (our local newspaper) on May 25, 1999. We had a booth providing information on floodplains, flood history, flood insurance, flood safety, and flood-proofing. Emphasis was on mitigation that individuals can do to their property.

  • New Partner:
We are partnering with Dialogic Communications Corporation who will be working with us on or auto-dialing notification system. We are working on final design specifications and implementation will begin next week. Several of our current partners are excited about this project and are participating in planning and sharing costs, including Poudre School District and Colorado State University.

  • Floodplain Regulations Open House:
The Stormwater Department is hosting an open house for the community to help answer questions and provide information on floodplain regulations along the Poudre River. This is in response to a community group interested making our city even more disaster resistant by implementing stricter floodplain regulations.

  • Emergency AM Radio Station:
The tower construction is complete, and the radio equipment has been ordered.

  • Floodplain Convention:
Susan Hayes of our Stormwater Department attended the Association of State Floodplain Managers Convention in Portland, Oregon in May.

  • OEM Website:
More information has been added weekly, including more detail on the progress of our activities and projects.

  • Project Impact Region VIII Conference:
Glenn Levy and Iola Fleischer attended the regional conference in Denver on June 8th and 9th. We enjoyed meeting members from all of the Region VIII Project Impact communities, and appreciated the opportunity to learn from others and share ideas.

  • Natural Disaster Information Cards:
This exciting project has been completed and now available on the website. These cards were designed for 911 call-takers, but can be used to assist anyone who may talk to the public during a natural disaster. The cards can be downloaded from the web and put in a notebook, or the file can be saved and used directly from your computer. [Go there now.]

  • VIPs:
Carmen Chaves, who is our new Project Impact Liaison Officer from FEMA, and Anne Marie Neuwirt from the Colorado OEM visited us in Fort Collins on June 4th. Sherryl Hahl, from FEMA Region VIII, and several other FEMA representatives from the Field Disaster Office visited on May 25th concerning our flooding that took place on April 30th.
