Spring Creek Community Gardens
Spring Creek Community Gardens encompass roughly ½ acre and includes 35 plots that are approximately 150 square feet in size. One of which, is designated as the kids’ garden---which the kids are very excited about. Beginning in the later part of winter gardening is already on their minds, as they begin germinating tomato seeds in the greenhouse. Other features of the garden include an automatic irrigation system, a three bin composting system, access to garden tools, a message board, and several fruit trees. During the season gardeners attend free workshops on gardening related topics such as insect control and seed saving techniques. Spring Creek Community Gardens is a member of Plant-a-Row-for-the-Hungry, a nationwide program aimed at reducing hunger. Vegetable gardening season in Fort Collins typically begins in late April and extends through the middle September. At the end of gardening season, plots are rototilled and amended with organic materials. Gardeners grow a wide range of vegetables, herbs and flowers and utilize organic methods for pest control. Plots are rented out by the season beginning in late February/early March through October. Plot fees are $50 for the season. Gardeners are also charged a $30 deposit which is refunded after gardeners clean up their plot by the end of October. More Information
