Application Timeline

  • July 8 – August 8 (5 p.m.). Applications accepted at Fort Collins Utilities.
  • August 8 – August 15 Utilities will review applications and work with applicants to clarify information if necessary.
  • August 15 Drawing held to award rebates if number of applications received exceeds available funding (completed applications received by August 8).

Note: Applications received after August 8 will be placed on a wait list in the order received.

Purchase and install a new solar energy-photovoltaic (PV) system and connect to Fort Collins Utilities' electric grid. Fort Collins Utilities, together with a grant from the Governor’s Energy Office, is offering rebates up to $4,000 for PV systems. With net-metering, customers receive full credit for the electricity generated by your PV system.

What you need to know

General System Requirements

  • Must be existing Fort Collins Utilities residential electric customer;
  • PV system must be sized between 500 Watts and 10kW, and installed by a certified COSEIA or NABCEP installer;
  • System must meet Utilities Interconnection Standards (PDF 209KB);
  • Equipment must be new and UL listed (eligible equipment list);
  • System orientation must achieve minimum of 90% of estimated ideal annual output. Performance estimate will be calculated using the NREL PV Watts Calculator for Boulder, CO.;
  • System cannot be shaded between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If questionable, applicant will submit shading analysis (check with your solar contractor); and
  • System must be approved by Fort Collins Utilities before connecting to electric grid.

Applicant agrees to:

  • Obtain an on-site energy audit (by Fort Collins Utilities or other qualified energy auditor);
  • Manage trees and other potential shading sources;
  • Complete a GEO survey and participate in a GEO verification audit if requested;
  • Provide copies of permits and supporting documents as outlined in application; and
  • Terms of Fort Collins Utilities Interconnection Agreement and assigns RECs for rebated portion of the installation to Fort Collins Utilities.
